New IRB Executive Director Named

Denise (Dee) Roe will be joining Northwestern January 15, 2016 as the new IRB Office Executive Director.  Dee comes to Northwestern from Spectrum Health System in Grand Rapids, MI, where she was Director of Research Oversight and Administration, as well as serving as the Director of the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) and Institutional Official (IO).  Dee joined Spectrum in 2010 and managed all policies and procedures related to human research protections and the ethical conduct of research, ensuring all standards were met in accordance with the Association for Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP).  In addition to her IRB-related responsibilities, Dee oversaw Institutional Bio-Safety, Research Laboratory Safety, Institutional Animal Care and Use, and the research conflict of interest program.

Prior to joining Spectrum, Dee worked in various positions at Vanderbilt University, starting as a LPN/Staff Nurse in oncology in 1992.  Dee joined Vanderbilt’s IRB office in 2001 and eventually rose to Director and Institutional Official for Vanderbilt’s HRPP.

Dee holds a Master of Science in Management, as well as nursing licenses.  She is also a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) and an AAHRPP Site Visitor.
