Dear McCombs colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Caitlin Mullaney as our new Senior Associate Dean for Business Affairs and Chief Operating Officer of the McCombs School of Business beginning June 15, 2020.

Several years of significant growth at Texas McCombs have increased the complexity and volume of demands on our operational teams. Senior Associate Dean Eric Hirst, Associate Dean Susie Brown, and their respective groups have repeatedly risen to the challenges this growth has created. But given Susie’s announced retirement and the demands upon Eric given our growing and diverse academic portfolio, our leadership team recognized that our ability to deliver against the school’s strategic plan hinges upon better functional integration and exceptional leadership of our operations. Taken together, these factors led us to create this new position and start the candidate search last fall.

As we bring together many of our operating units, Caitlin will ultimately be responsible for leading and managing the school’s finance, human resources, facilities planning and operations, and information technology functions. Bringing these functions together under one leader will improve our ability to drive greater operational efficiency, strategic success, and stewardship of our resources, and will enhance our position within and beyond the university and our peer group of top-tier business schools.

Caitlin is well-prepared to successfully lead from this position. Since 2015, she has served as chief business officer of the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University, overseeing the school’s finance and administration operations. Her finance responsibilities included financial reporting and analysis, quarterly forecasting, and preparation of annual and long-term operating and capital goals. In partnership with the dean, provost, and university finance, she led a key role in overseeing, guiding, and implementing strategic priorities for the Owen School.

In addition to her financial consulting and accounting experience, Caitlin oversaw the human resources function, and managed the implementation of finance and human resources technology. She also led the design and delivery of the school’s library renovation project, as well as design for a future expansion of the Owen facilities.

Caitlin received her MBA from Vanderbilt in 2013 and her undergraduate degree in accounting from Villanova University in 2003.

Her experience extends beyond higher education into the private sector. Following graduation from Villanova, Caitlin began a career in public accounting with the multinational professional services firm Ernst and Young (EY), serving assurance clients in the Washington, D.C. area. She then served as a controller at builder EYA LLC. From 2012-2015, she worked in the hospitality sector as a senior human resources consultant and executive compensation consultant at Hilton Worldwide, working through the company’s initial public offering, and leading the implementation of a global equity incentive plan.

Caitlin’s great mix of experience across different sectors and functions is one of the things that stood out in our strong candidate pool. Given the broad scope of this role, we knew we needed someone with comprehensive functional expertise to help us be more strategic across all these functions, and to drive increased impact in all departments and teams throughout the college. We think you will find, as we and the search committee have, that Caitlin’s demeanor and approach is collaborative, thoughtful, results-oriented, and inclusive. With her most recent business school experience, she is poised to hit the ground running and have an immediate impact.

Please join us in welcoming Caitlin to the McCombs community. We are excited about what she will bring to the school and to the university.
